Shaun originally trained in Archaeology, his PhD explored the expression of ethnicity through artefacts, he also taught film-making and produced educational films. He taught in Leicester and Leeds Metropolitan Universities, joining Coventry in 1997. He became Head of the Media Department in 2009, authoring its 'Open Media Strategy'. In 2012 he led the JISC-funded 'Coventry Open Media Classes' project. In 2014 he set-up and Co-directed the Disruptive Media Learning Lab. This work on the implications of disruptive technologies for HE was recognised by JISC, Sony Ericsson, Apple, Adobe and UK and EU Parliamentary Commissions. He became Academic Dean in December 2016. He is currently leading the development of a distinctive vision for 21st Century Arts & Humanities education, integrating this with a ' Multi-million redevelopment of Faculty's estate for Sept 2023.
