European student mobility is growing. In the context of bilateral agreements in Erasmus+, European Universities, and other collaborations a lot of point solutions for organizing mobility are developed. These point solutions hinder an interoperable ecosystem to support seamless international student mobility. To ensure the digital sovereignty of the education sector, it is necessary for the sector itself to take responsibility for organizing a digital ecosystem. This requires standardization, which seems to contradict the autonomy of educational institutions. But the sector, in order to maintain autonomy in educational programs, should cooperate in organizing education. Only then we are able to educate a generation of students equipped to contribute to a strong European society and economy.
